What Do INFINITI Brake Rotors Do?

In an INFINITI vehicle's disc brake system, the brake rotors are the discs themselves. They attach to wheel hubs via ribs, and their job is to press brake calipers, with brake pads in between. This creates the friction required for braking properly. Rotors also help disperse the main byproduct of the process -- heat.

What Types of Brake Rotors Are There?

There are four kinds for sale these days: blank & smooth (a.k.a., smooth), slotted, drilled, (a.k.a. cross-drilled), and drilled & slotted. Many INFINITI cars use smooth, while a lot of INFINITI SUVs use either slotted or drilled. Some INFINITI sports cars and performance vehicles, however, use drilled & slotted.

When Should You Replace Your Brake Rotors?

Whatever kind your INFINITI model has, they'll eventually need to be replaced depending on use and age. Most owner's manuals recommend changing them every 70,000 miles or so. Review yours for more info. You can also keep an eye out for signs they've begun failing or gone bad, include damaged surfaces, wobbles when braking, and unusual brake noises. If you see such symptoms, do a careful inspection and replace any rotors the results call for changing. However, be sure you do so in pairs to keep your ride braking as best it can.
