  • Search by a part name. Example: water pump.

Whether your INFINITI engine is stock or built for performance, it has many parts, all with jobs vital to how well that car or SUV you love runs. Take intake valves, for instance. They regulate the engine's ratio of air to fuel. Pistons pressurize that mix, spark plugs ignite it, causing combustion, and exhaust valves regulate the fumes that result. Valve covers protect both sets of valves, a camshaft and rocker arm (with help from a timing belt) help coordinate the valves' activities, and the head gasket and cylinder head, meanwhile, help keep gases and motor oil from escaping. The crankshaft turns engine power into rotary motion, and drive shafts and the transmission use that motion to move the wheels and tires. The oil sump or oil pan, however, stores engine oil, which is used to lubricate it all.

Plenty of other components, like valve springs, connecting rods, and head bolts, ensure everything in the engine fits together the way it's supposed to, too. When any stop working, your "Check Engine" light may turn on, and engine problems often follow. Signs of them include:

  • Higher emissions
  • Worsening fuel economy
  • Trouble accelerating
  • Longer warm-up times
  • Rough idling
  • Stalling
  • The inability to start your vehicle at all
  • An engine inspection will give you a better idea of what's happening. Plug in a code reader and run a careful one.
