Buyer's Guide To INFINITI Air Intake Parts
What Does An Air Intake Do?
Your air intake, also called an air induction system, draws oxygen into the engine through an intake manifold, where it's distributed among cylinders. When it mixes with gas in the right ratio, spark plugs combust the mix. The mix then burns, producing the power that runs your INFINITI car or SUV.
How Does An Air Intake Work?
Outside air goes through an engine air filter, where its airborne contaminants are removed. The air is then regulated by a mass airflow sensor, an air metering system, and oxygen sensors. The first measures air movement. The second feeds back to an engine control unit (ECU). The third monitors exhaust levels. If you want extra performance from your engine, add a cold air intake. This pulls in chillier and therefore denser air, improving power output.
How Do You Spot A Faulty Air Intake?
When air intake parts don't work properly, though, they can cause trouble. Aside from a lit Check Engine light (which is a default warning for many issues), signs of it include an engine that revs too fast (both in neutral and when parked) and idling faster or more slowly than normal. The first symptom suggests general engine performance problems. However, the last two indicate possible air intake system failure.
