What INFINITI Belts Do

The many belts in your INFINITI vehicle move its equally many parts -- the crankshaft, ones that start and steer, those that heat and cool, and more. They do it mechanically. The serpentine belt and drive belts, for instance, move parts in the alternator, power steering, and other systems. The timing belt (or timing chain, if your model has one) helps turn the camshaft, which helps coordinate engine valves and pistons. Even the climate control system and cooling fan in your car or SUV have belts to move their various components.

What INFINITI Hoses Do

Hoses also move auto parts, but they do it using hydraulic or liquid pressure. Radiator hoses, for instance, transport antifreeze between your engine and radiator. Heater core hoses, for another example, shunt hot coolant through the heater in your car heating and air conditioning system, warming your cabin. In older INFINITI cars and SUVs, fuel hoses connect the gas tank to the engine. Brake hoses, on the other hand, send brake fluid to the brake calipers. Air intake hoses, however, help the engine manage its air-to-fuel ratio. There are even hoses for oil coolers, positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valves, and more.

How to Spot Problems With Your Belts and Hoses

If your INFINITI is having trouble running right, or it's disabled, worn belts and hoses might be the causes. Signs suggesting this include:

  • Visible looseness or damage
  • Screechy or chirping belts
  • Fluid leaks, either under your vehicle or around a hose
  • Problems with your battery or interior lighting
  • Engine misfires or overheats
  • Failed starts
  • Complete systems failure
