Your INFINITI vehicle's front suspension has important parts called control arms or "A arms" -- two to four of them. What they do is connect the wheel assembly or steering knuckle to the frame or body.

Their outer ends attach to a permanently fastened, pressed-on, or bolted-in ball joint. They also have rubber bushings that enable vertical arm swing, which helps smooth out the ride over bumps and potholes. When all parts work together the way they should, your wheels and tires remain on the road.

When they don't, however -- say, when a control arm gets damaged or just plain wears out from use and age -- the arm can bend (if it doesn't otherwise break), and that makes any vehicle unsafe to drive.

Luckily, there are ways to tell when control arms go bad. Look for signs, such as brake drift over uneven terrain, clunking or popping sounds, and loss of some control while driving. They usually indicate worn ball joints or torn bushings. Both can result in complete detachment of your wheels from your suspension.

To make sure that disaster doesn't happen, hoist your vehicle and do a full inspection at least once a year. If it turns out you need to replace a control arm or two, be sure you buy genuine INFINITI. Our auto parts store can help.
