Your INFINITI has a fuel pump for a reason. Frankly, without it, the engine would have a hard time getting enough gas to feed the combustion that moves your every drive.
How INFINITI Fuel Pumps Work
Once upon a time, the fuel pump relies upon engine power to create the suction needed to draw fuel from the tank. Modern marvels such as your INFINITI QX60 SUV, however, boast a dedicated DC motor. That powers the fuel pump, which draws gasoline out as required. The gas travels through fuel lines into a fuel rail, with the fuel injectors spraying the fuel into the cylinders when the engine control unit (ECU) calls for more.
How to Spot a Faulty Fuel Pump
The most obvious sign of trouble is when your engine suddenly starts to sputter with no warning. Others include poorer fuel economy or difficulty starting your vehicle. Two more include odd squealing noises coming from under your hood, or a "Check Engine" dash light coming on. Those two, however, are catcall signs of trouble for many issues. That means, in the case of the engine light, you'll want to have someone connect a code reader to determine the root cause.
