OEM INFINITI FX35 Exhaust Parts

All About INFINITI FX35 Exhaust Systems

The exhaust system in your mid-size luxury SUV helps remove the toxic byproducts created when its engine combusts air and fuel. If the crossover you love didn't have one, though (or its exhaust malfunctioned or failed), the resulting fumes would not only make you and your passengers sick. They would also pollute the environment and violate both emissions standards and some laws.

How an exhaust works generally -- the one in your FX35 model included -- is actually fairly simple. First, pollutants go through its catalytic converter. There, metals like platinum, rhodium, and palladium split them into nitrogen and oxygen. The former gets captured, while the latter flows onward. The process also incinerates hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.

Meanwhile, its muffler and resonator help ensure that air flows freely while reducing noise. Its exhaust manifold then pushes the cleaner gases (carbon dioxide and water vapor, mostly) down an exhaust pipe. They enter the muffler's tail pipe, flowing out and dissipating into the air.

Unfortunately, no original FX35 exhaust lasts forever. Yours can go bad over time, given use and age. However, there are symptoms to warn you that's happening. They include:

• Warning lights (e.g., Check Engine) appearing on the dashboard
• Your gas mileage worsening
• Unusual noises coming from the muffler and/or exhaust pipe
• The sulfuric smell of rotten eggs

See any, and you should do an inspection and review the results; replace whatever exhaust parts they recommend. Otherwise, you'll need to change your resonator and/or muffler every 2 to 4 years and your catalytic converter every 100,000 miles or so. Before you buy parts, however, make sure they're genuine.
