Your luxury car relies upon the fuel pump to pull gas from the fuel tank and deliver it to the engine. There, the fuel mixes with oxygen, gets ignited, and feeds the combustion that moves you down the road.
How Fuel Pumps Work
The fuel pump draws that gas out of the tank and sends it through fuel lines into the fuel rail. Then fuel injectors spray the gas into the engine cylinders. Older cars used a mechanical fuel pump that depends on the engine in order to achieve the necessary suction, but modern models such as your INFINITI G35 are more likely to use a DC motor to help the fuel pump.
How to Spot Fuel Pump Issues
Even the best fuel pump can eventually go bad, though. Signs of failure include:
- Worsening fuel efficiency
- Weaker engine performance
- There's a squealing noise coming from the engine
- You're unable to start your car
