No results found for "ignition, spark plug, solenoid, starter". Here are some helpful search tips:

  • Search by a part name. Example: water pump.
  • Be less specific. Example: brake instead of ceramic brake.
  • Remove information such as make, year or model.
  • Can't find the part you are looking for? Contact us and we'll find it for you!

Your INFINITI vehicle's ignition system creates the spark it needs to start running on its own power. How ignitions work is simple. Turn your key in its ignition lock cylinder, or press the "Start" button, and an ignition switch activates. Current passes through the starter solenoid and draws high voltage from your battery via an ignition coil.

The electricity then travels to the spark plugs, attached to the combustion chambers atop engine cylinder head. Each plug lead captures the charge in turn, with the camshaft or crankshaft helping out. The "spark" ignites the fuel and air mixture in the cylinder's chambers; the starter motor "cranks" (starts) your engine, the engine's pistons pump, and it produces power. A timing mechanism -- in some cases, electronic controls -- help keep parts working in sync.

If your INFINITI model won't start at all, though, you may be dealing with a bad ignition. Luckily, there are telltale signs of this. For instance:

  • If you can't turn the key at all
  • If your vehicle stalls
  • If your dashboard's lights and displays flicker
  • If your starter motor doesn't turn at all
  • Seeing any of these? An inspection will be your best bet for figuring out what's wrong.
